How much does pet insurance cost? Published prices, side by side
Quick answer, from the figures the insurers publish themselves: Lemonade states policies for dogs and cats start at $10/month and that its policyholders pay about $48/month for dogs and about $27/month for cats; Spot advertises dogs from $15/month and cats from $9/month; Fetch does not publish an entry price but publishes averages of $35/month for dogs and $22/month for cats. Those numbers are not directly comparable - each one is quoted under a stated deductible, annual limit and reimbursement rate, listed next to every figure on this page. The real number for your pet is the quote each brand's own site gives you.
Every figure on this page was read from the brand's own official site and carries its source link and check date.
How this cost page is built
Pet insurance prices are quoted, not published as a single number, so this page does two honest things: it repeats the figures each insurer puts on its own website, and it repeats the conditions those figures were calculated under - deductible, annual limit and reimbursement rate - right next to them. Nothing here is estimated, averaged across third-party comparison sites or taken from a broker ranking.
All figures were read from the brands' own pages on 2026-09-25. Where an official page does not publish a figure, the cell says not published on the official site instead of a guess.
The reason the same pet can cost $29 or $336 a month is not only the brand: it is the deductible, limit and reimbursement set chosen, the pet's breed and age, and the state. That is why every row below carries its condition.

The same-pet price check Lemonade publishes
Lemonade's cost guide does something unusual: it prices one identical pet at six companies. For a 4-year-old Goldendoodle in Chicago on 80% co-insurance, the maximum annual limit and a $250 annual deductible it lists Trupanion $336, Healthy Paws $85, Fetch $99, Pets Best $77, ManyPets $73 and Lemonade $61 per month. For a 1-year-old short-haired cat in Danbury, Connecticut on a $250 deductible, 80% co-insurance, the maximum annual limit and no add-ons or discounts it lists Trupanion $58, ManyPets $44, Fetch $36, Pets Best $35 and Lemonade $29. Source: lemonade.com cost guide, checked 2026-09-25.
Treat that spread as a reminder, not a ranking: Lemonade ran the test and published it on its own page, the profiles suit its own pricing, and the page notes the companies could not be made perfectly identical (Trupanion only offered a 90% co-insurance option). The same page also publishes state averages, from $30 to $34 a month in Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Michigan up to $45 to $49 in California and Connecticut, using Lemonade's own policy rates as of October 2024.
What actually moves the number
Deductible. Lemonade offers $100, $250, $500, $750 or $1,000 and states plainly that a higher deductible lowers your monthly premium. Fetch says the same, and its published average assumes $300. Spot's advertised quotes assume $500 for dogs and $750 for cats. Source: lemonade.com cost guide and fetchpet.com price page, checked 2026-09-25.
Annual limit. Lemonade lets you choose anywhere from $5,000 to $100,000; Spot's advertised quotes use $2,500; Fetch's average uses $10,000. A lower limit buys a lower premium and a smaller maximum payout.
Reimbursement rate. The examples above use 80%; Spot advertises up to 90%; Fetch advertises up to 90%. Lemonade says adjusting these levels might lower your premium by 10% or 15%, and warns that it also means being covered for less when a large bill arrives.
Age, breed and state. Both Lemonade and Spot list age, breed and location as price factors, and Spot states premiums are based on your pet's current age and may increase at renewal. Entry prices on this page are therefore not quotes for an older pet.
How to get a real number in three steps
1. Run the same configuration at each brand: pick one deductible (say $500), one annual limit and one reimbursement rate, then take a quote for your own pet at lemonade.com, spotpet.com and fetchpet.com. Lemonade advertises a quote in as little as 90 seconds; Spot's quote entry point is its 'Click For Price' button; Fetch states its quote includes all monthly taxes and fees.
2. Compare those three quotes with each other, not with the advertised figures on this page - advertised figures carry conditions that your pet will not match exactly.
3. Check what the money buys before you pay: waiting periods (14 days illness at Lemonade and in Spot's sample policy, up to 15 days at Fetch), the deductible you chose, and whether wellness care is something you want to add on - Lemonade prices preventative packages from +$10/month and Spot prices its Platinum cat preventative add-on at $24.95/month.

Pet insurance cost FAQ
How much does pet insurance cost per month?
The entry points the brands publish are $10/month for dogs and cats at Lemonade, $15/month for dogs and $9/month for cats at Spot, and averages of $35/month for dogs and $22/month for cats at Fetch. Lemonade's own averages across its policyholders are about $48/month for dogs and about $27/month for cats. Every one of those figures is tied to a stated deductible, annual limit and reimbursement rate, so the only number that describes your pet is the quote the brand's own site produces.

What makes one pet insurance quote more expensive than another?
Lemonade lists breed and age, location and state, the coverage options chosen (deductible amount, co-insurance percentage and annual limits), any add-ons, and available discounts. Spot adds that premiums are based on the current age of your pet and may increase at renewal, and that species or breed and home address can change the initial premium.

How can I lower my monthly premium?
Lemonade's cost guide suggests choosing a higher deductible ($100, $250, $500, $750 or $1,000), selecting a lower annual coverage limit, or skipping optional add-ons, and notes that adjusting these levels might lower the premium by 10% or 15% - at the price of being covered for less. Fetch publishes the same mechanic: a higher deductible makes the price lower, and a lower reimbursement rate makes the price lower.

Does location change what pet insurance costs?
On Lemonade's published state table, average monthly cost ranges from $30 to $34 in Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Michigan up to $45 to $49 in California and Connecticut. Those averages come from Lemonade's own policy rates as of October 2024 and the page calls them illustrative; Spot and Fetch do not publish a state table.

Which is cheaper, Lemonade or Spot?
On published entry prices Lemonade is lower for dogs ($10/month against Spot's $15/month) and Spot is lower for cats ($9/month against Lemonade's $10/month starting price). The comparison stops there, because Spot's figures assume an 80% reimbursement rate, a $500 or $750 deductible and a $2,500 annual limit for specific pets in specific ZIP codes, while Lemonade's figures assume basic accident and illness coverage. Both brands publish averages only in part: Lemonade publishes about $48/month for dogs and about $27/month for cats, and Spot publishes no average of its own.

What discounts can lower the price?
Lemonade publishes a multi-pet discount (eligibility depends on where you live), a bundle discount with other Lemonade policies, and a discount for paying annually instead of monthly. Spot publishes 10% off every pet enrolled after the first and an advertised 20% employee discount. Fetch publishes 10% off every month for life for veterans and active military. None of the three brands publishes a promo code page in its official sitemap.

Does pet insurance cost more as my pet gets older?
Spot states on its homepage that premiums are based on the current age of your pet and may increase due to the age of your pet at renewal, and that initial premiums can be affected by species or breed and by home address. Lemonade lists age among the factors that change the cost. The published starting prices on this page therefore describe young pets on the stated configurations, not every age.
